We're All Running

Some of us just don't know why or where to. Some are in denial while others just honestly don't know. I started running at the young age of 14, I felt that I was ready to discover the world and I thought I was ready for my journey. After about a year I realized that I was not as well equipped as I thought and that it was time for a water break, so to say. This time I'm back, fully equipped and anxious to start again. With the experience of failure and the knowledge of struggle, I know my journey won't be an easy one, but it will be worth it in the end.

I read an interesting article today that Dr. Held showed me. "It's Not About You" by David Brooks discusses the challenges recent college graduates face when entering the "real world". After years of being taught to do what we want, to follow our passions, so on and so forth. While that is all fine and dandy, that's not how the "real world" works. We have to find our passion or calling, and while following what calls us we find ourselves. Or as Brooks describes it in his closing statement "the purpose in life is not to find yourself. It’s to lose yourself."

That statement has been playing through my mind all day. We are to find ourselves by losing ourselves, a fine contradiction, is it not? So I'll keep running, losing and finding myself over and over until I can rest.
